On Tuesday, July 5, Michelle Johnson will perform a special Independence Week cabaret show honoring The Great American Songbook, in the Ovation Room inside Green Valley Ranch. An Independent Woman will feature songs by Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin to name a few. Accompanying Johnson will be a full band with horns. Well the claws are out everywhere and people all over the blogosphere and elsewhere are up in arms about pop singer Christina Aguilera’s Superbowl performance of the National Anthem last night. Some people want to give her a break – after all it’s a big stage and a nerve wracking moment. Others say she was showboating with all of those vocal gymnastics, and disrespecting the song by not knowing words and by making it her own to the point where the melody was completely unrecognizable.
